The Alaska Science Consortium (ASC) is a coalition of teachers and school districts working together to improve the teaching of science using State and National Standards and the ASC Learning Cycle Model. The Consortium involves scientists and teachers in the training of their colleagues in inquiry science, process, skills, and content knowledge as it relates to the local environment, child development theory, and developmentally appropriate practice. The core of the ASC is a training for two weeks at a Summer Institute with a distance delivery course offered in the fall that is Internet and audio conference based. The 2011 Summer Institute was held June 6 - 17 in Ketchikan. This year's focus was Inquiry Based Life Science. This summer's Alaska Science Consortium Advanced Institute was held June 27th - 29th with a focus on water and ecosystems.
